ABSTRACT:
The main objective of the present study was to formulate and evaluate a herbal scrub gel containing Papaya and Oatmeal as the major active ingredients. Herbal cosmeceuticals are widely used due to their safety, effectiveness, and minimal side effects, and they play an important role in maintaining healthy skin. Papaya contains natural enzymes such as papain, which helps in gentle exfoliation, removal of dead skin cells, and improvement of skin tone, while oatmeal acts as a natural cleanser, moisturizer, and soothing agent, making it suitable for sensitive skin. In the present formulation, papaya powder and oatmeal powder were incorporated as active herbal ingredients along with other excipients such as propylene glycol, carbopol, methylparaben, triethanolamine, sodium lauryl sulphate, and distilled water to prepare a stable scrub gel. The formulated herbal scrub was evaluated for various parameters including physical appearance, pH, spreadability, washability, grittiness, homogeneity, and skin irritability. The evaluation results indicated that the prepared herbal scrub possessed good aesthetic appearance, acceptable pH suitable for skin, good spreadability, easy washability, and non-irritant nature. The application of the papaya and oatmeal scrub helps in deep cleansing of the skin, gentle exfoliation, improvement in blood circulation, and enhanced oxygen supply to the skin surface. After regular use, the skin appeared softer, smoother, cleaner, and refreshed. Thus, the developed herbal scrub formulation of papaya and oatmeal can be considered an effective, safe, and economical herbal cosmeceutical for routine skincare, providing cleansing, exfoliating, and skin-rejuvenating benefits without any adverse effects.
