ABSTRACT:
Migraine is a chronic neurological disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of severe headache associated with nausea, vomiting, photophobia, and phonophobia. Conventional oral dosage forms often fail to provide rapid therapeutic relief because delayed gastric emptying during migraine attacks reduces drug absorption. Orodispersible tablets (ODTs) rapidly disintegrate in the oral cavity without the need for water, providing faster drug release, improved bioavailability, and better patient compliance. The present review discusses the formulation and evaluation of ODTs containing Naproxen Sodium and Ondansetron HCl for migraine management. Naproxen Sodium provides analgesic and anti-inflammatory action, whereas Ondansetron HCl effectively controls nausea and vomiting. Their combination in an ODT offers rapid symptom relief, enhanced therapeutic efficacy, and improved patient convenience. The review also highlights formulation approaches, evaluation parameters, advantages, limitations, recent technological developments, and future prospects of ODTs in migraine therapy. Overall, ODTs represent an effective and patient-friendly drug delivery system for improving migraine treatment outcomes.
